Nozzles

Nozzles are mechanical connections for inlets, outlets, ventilation, drainage, and instrumentation on a tank, pump, vessel and heat exchanger, among others. Nozzles could also be flanges or connection fittings.

A typical nozzle contains information for the:

Label ID - The identification number for the nozzle.
Service - The media or purpose for the connection (e.g., drainage).
Rating - The pressure rating or class for the connection (e.g., nominal pressure).
Type - The connection type (e.g., welding neck, socket welded, screwed).
Dimension - The size of the connection (e.g., nominal).
Facing - The flange facing (e.g., raised face, ring joint facing).
Finish - The flange facing finish.
Gasket - The type of flange gasket.
Gasket Part - The gasket design part (available for object nozzle data only).

Objects that will have nozzles require the Can have Mechanical Nozzles class property to be set to True.

Nozzles and Gaskets

The Gasket field and the Gasket Part field for a nozzle have different functions. The Gasket field is used for entering gasket requirements (e. g., Graphite or Teflon) for a mechanical nozzle during the Basic Design process.

The Gasket Part field is used for connecting a suitable design part to the nozzle by entering the gasket's design part ID during the Detail Engineering process.

Nozzles and Bill of Material (BOM) Diagrams

A BOM diagram can be created for each design object with nozzles. This diagram is a simplified sketch of the design object/nozzles and contains a BOM list for nozzles and their complimentary gaskets, bolts, nuts, and washers. This information comes from the following different sources:

Assembly and detail drawings from the manufacturer and supplier.
Nozzle information (service, type and gasket type) from the design objects in IFS/Asset Design.

These diagrams are vital to the assembly and disassembly of equipment during a plant shutdown for servicing, rebuilding, and inspection. They are also used for the preventive maintenance planning process.
