Installation or Upgrade of Basic Data Translations
Explanation
This is not an end-user activity but an activity that is performed during a fresh installation or upgrade. The purpose is to describe how the basic data translation is initiated.
When IFS Application components are installed, either through a fresh installation or upgrade,
then as the last part of the installation process, basic data will be defined
using so-called ins-scripts. The basic data is required to make the current version
of the components work properly. Normally the following will happen when such a script is
executed:
- A basic data record is sent to the Logical Unit (LU) that owns the data.
- If the basic data does not exist, it will be inserted into appropriate tables.
- If the basic data already exists, then normally only translatable texts
such as descriptions will be
updated in the Logical Unit.
- All basic data related texts that are supported by translations are sent to the
BasicDataTranslation
Logical Unit and will be registered as so called "PROG"
entries if existing, otherwise, an update will take place. All translations are
stored in the Foundation1 Server storage called SRD, the Server Runtime
Database, that also contains all other server related translations.
- Continue this work flow for all basic data records available in the file.
Note that the only entries in the translation database that are affected are
the ones with the "PROG" language code. Each attribute to be
translated is required to have a "PROG" entry, which will be registered in each
Logical Unit during installation.
As a second step during the installation phase, the basic data translations,
as well as all other server related translations are defined. All these
translations are stored in the component specific srd-files, e.g., Accrulen.srd,
contains Server Runtime Database translations for Accounting Rules for the
language "en". Depending on how the installation kit has been built,
translations in one or more languages will be defined.
Note that if a translation already exists, the following will happen:
- The Installation Text will be updated.
- If the Text (current translation) before update was equal to the
Installation Text, then the Text will also be updated.
- The translation will be defined as System Defined if the text/translation
equals the installation text/translation.

System Effects
After the installation the following can be done:
- Basic Data translations can be viewed and modified if necessary in the
Basic Data Translation window, found in the General folder. This means that it is possible to modify basic data
translations online.
