Define Condition Codes

Explanation

Use this activity to define condition codes for use with serial and/or lot/batch tracked parts. Condition codes are user-defined values which are used to indicate the condition of the selected part. Codes can be defined, for example, for new, rebuilt, repaired, unserviceable, or a variety of other conditions.

System Effects

The values entered on the Condition Code tab of the Part Basic Data window will be used to indicate the condition of serial and lot/batch tracked parts for which condition code functionality is enabled. Only the values entered in this tab will be available in the List of Values in various windows and tabs throughout IFS Applications. One of the entered condition codes will appear as the default. Once a code has been connected to any part record, it cannot be removed. The description and values for the other fields can be modified, however.

Condition code values can be changed for serial and lot/batch tracked parts in only a limited number of windows. In most windows, the condition code value cannot be modified.

Procedure

To define a condition code:

  1. Open the Part Basic Data window.
  2. Click the Condition Code tab.
  3. In the Condition Code field, enter the short code for the condition you want to specify. Use no more than ten alphanumeric characters.
  4. Using no more than 35 alphanumeric characters, enter a description in the Condition Code Description field.
  5. Use the Notes field to record any additional information. Either enter information directly, or double-click in the field, to open a text editor window.
  6. In the Condition Code Type field, select either Default Condition Code or Not Default Condition Code. Only one condition code can be selected as the default condition code. If you select Default Condition Code, and another code is already defined as the default, its value will change to Not Default Condition Code.
  7. Optionally, you can associate part availability control parameters with the condition code. Select the desired availability control ID, using the List of Values in the Part Availability Control field. The associated description will automatically appear in the Part Availability Control Description field.
  8. Create a new record line, and repeat steps 37 for any additional condition codes you want to enter.
  9. Save the record.
