Transfer to/from Project Inventory

Use this process to change the ownership of inventory between projects, and between the standard inventory and project inventory. Although similar to the Change Inventory Location scenario, this function only changes the project belonging of the inventory on-hand, and does not physically move the stock between locations.

Inventory can be categorized according to its ownership as Standard Inventory and Project Inventory. A given project can own its project inventory, ensuring that the material acquired to its project cannot be issued to fulfill other demands, from another project or from non-project related demands. This project pegging distinguishes between what is project material and what is standard material.

Three transferring possibilities are available:

  1. Transfer from project inventory to standard inventory:
This may be, for example, when a project has excess material that can be used as standard inventory, or when you do not know which other projects will require the part. This could also be performed before closing the project, when the project is completed.
  2. Transfer from standard inventory to project inventory:
This may be, for example, when a project has a use for the material that exists in standard inventory, but the material needs to be handled as project-specific inventory within the project.
  3. Transfer from one project inventory to another:
This may be, for example, when a project has excess material that can be used in another project, either during the project's execution or when the project is about to be completed.

The above transfers can be initiated from the Inventory Part In Stock window according to either one of the following activities:
