Make Supply Chain Reservation on Sourced Lines

Explanation

Use this activity to make inventory reservations from a sourced line. You can perform reservations against your own inventory (local reservation) and other sites (supply site reservation).

Whenever you source parts from either your own inventory or through internal suppliers (the other site in the application), you are able to reserve parts before the customer is released.

Three different types of reservations are possible when perform    ing reservations on a sourced line:

Manual Reservation: You manually allocate how many parts are going to be reserved. You can also choose the inventory location from which the parts will be picked. As a manual reservation is done online, you can ensure that the parts are available and reserved immediately. You cannot reserve more parts than stated in the order line. Reservations may be changed until the corresponding internal customer order has been created.

Automatic Reservation: The system selects the locations from which the part should be reserved. If defined on the inventory part, an ATP check is performed on the supply site.

Instant Reservation: An automatic reservation on the supply site is performed as soon as the customer order line is saved.

After a reservation is performed, you can always unreserve or change the reservation using manual reservation, either on your own site (local site) or the supply site.

You can perform all these actions for single-handled parts as well as for pallet-handled ones. The procedures are similar but not identical. It can also be performed on component lines for a package part.

When changing the reservation for pallets, you can reduce the quantity to deliver by unreserving pallets. You can for example, unreserve one pallet and reserve another for the same order.

Prerequisites

System Effects

The stored sales parts are reserved for this particular source line at the desired inventory location.
Reservations will be connected to the source line until the customer order is released. When released the reservation is moved to the corresponding customer order line that is created. For local reservations this means that the reservation is now handled as a normal customer order reservation.
For supply site reservations, the reservation will be transferred to the internal customer order when the internal customer order is created,

Procedure

As indicated above, this activity describes the handling of reservations against the own stock (supply code inventory order) and the other sites (supply code internal purchase) on the sourced line. The procedure for these two activities are the same, with the difference being that you either perform a local reservation or a supply site reservation on the sourced line.

Open the Parameters for Reservation dialog box. There are two available options: Manual Reservation and Automatic Reservation.

For Manual Reservation, the following actions can be performed:

Reserve single-handled parts:

  1. In the Single tab, select the line where the appropriate location is displayed.
  2. Enter the quantity to be reserved in the Qty Reserved field.
  3. Click Save to complete the reservation.

Change reservation of single handled parts:

  2. Enter the new quantity to be reserved in the Qty Reserved field.
For example, if you have previously reserved 10 parts and now want only 8 parts to be reserved, indicate 8 parts instead of 10 in the Qty Reserved field.
  3. Click Save to change the reservation.

Change reservation of pallet-handled parts:

  1. In the Pallet tab, select the line of pallet that has already been reserved.
  2. To unreserve the pallet, clear the Reserved check box in the corresponding line.
Alternatively, to unreserve the appropriate line, right-click in the lower part of the window and click Unreserve.
  3. Select the line of the new pallet(s) to be reserved.
  4. Reserve the pallet by marking the Reserved check-box in the corresponding line. Alternatively, you can mark the appropriate line, right-click in the lower part of the window, and select Reserve.
  5. Click Save to change the reservation.

A third choice, Instant Reservation, can also be used. This choice means that reservation is performed as soon as the sourced line is saved. It is not possible to change the Supply Site Reservation Type on a sourced line. The default value setup in Site-To-Site Reserve Setup will be used. For reservations against own stock, this is not a valid choice.

After using either Automatic Reservation or Instant Reservation, you can always change or unreserve parts using Manual Reservation.
