Delete Serial

Explanation

This activity is used to remove or delete a registered vehicle or component from IFS/Vehicle Information Management. Ideally, this activity would be performed as a result of the vehicle or component part being sold or scrapped.

You have the option of retaining historical records for the serialized parts you choose to remove. Therefore, when you perform this activity, you can specify if the entire sub serial structure of the selected vehicle is to be removed or not. If you have selected to remove the sub serial structure, you can further specify if the vehicle and any particular sub part requires historical records to be retained.

Prerequisites

• The operational status of the serial must be set to Scrapped. Note that the serial is disconnected from a structure before performing a scrap.
• If the serial is connected to a flight log, this flight log should be in either the Voided or Closed status.

System Effects

• Information on the serial will be deleted from the system.
• If defined, the structure of the serial will be deleted.
• If defined, the structure of the serial will be retained. Serials on the first level of the structure will be disconnected from the serial being deleted, and all empty or not installed structure positions on this level of the structure will be removed.  
• Historical records for sub serial parts will be retained according to the settings on the top part in the structure. These records can be analyzed at any time.

Procedure

1. Open the Serial Structure Information window and query (F3) for the necessary serial.

Note: If you need to move down the structure, in the Consist Of tab select the row containing the part, right-click and click Next Level until the required part is displayed in the header of the window.

2. Click the General tab.
3. Right-click on the tab, and then click Remove Serial. The Remove Serial assistant opens.
4. In the first step, select the Delete from Part Serial Catalog check box if you want to remove details on the serial from the Part Serial Catalog.
5. Click Next.
6. In the second step, select the check box(es) that illustrate the type of history records you want retained for the serial being removed. Clear the check box(es) for historical records you do not want. Some check boxes will be selected by default, but can be updated according to your requirements.
7. Click Next.
8. In the third step, select the Remove the entire serial structure? check box if you want to remove the entire serial structure.
9. Click Finish.
