User Settings
Purpose: The purpose of this lesson is to learn how to
define and maintain user settings.

Local Check Out Path – Basic Exercise
In this exercise, you are going to define C:/Temp as your local check out path.
- Open the
User Settings dialog box from the Navigator.
- Click in the Local Check Out Path field.
- Click Browse and browse to the C:/Temp directory
on your computer.
- Select the directory by click OK in the Browse To Folder
window.
Result: The path you selected should now be entered in the field.
Note: You can now change your Check Out Path.
External Viewer Application – Extended Exercise
In this exercise, you are going to define the path to the Notepad application
in MS Windows. We are going to use Notepad to view a word document. It is more
common to use some kind of viewer to view CAD files; for instance, if you do not
have a CAD application installed.
- Open the
User Settings dialog box from the Navigator.
- Click the External Viewer Application field.
- Click Browse and browse to the location of the viewer.
In this exercise you can use Notepad. If you do not know the location of
the Notepad application, use Windows Find (From the Start menu, point
to Find and click Files
And Folders).
- Select the application file and click OK.
External Redline Application – Extended Exercise
In this exercise, the path to the Redline application will be defined. This
requires that you have some sort of redline application installed on your
computer.
- Open the
User Settings dialog box from the Navigator.
- Click in the External Redline Application field.
- Click Browse and browse to the directory of the redline
application.
- Select the application file and click OK.
Briefcase Root Path - Extended Exercise
Note that this exercise are for web users only.
In this exercise you are going to define your Briefcase
Root Path, i.e., the path where the documents in a briefcase should be exported.
In this case you are going to create a new folder under C:/Temp
which you are going to use as your Briefcase Root Path.
- Open Windows Explorer and browse to C:\Temp.
- Create a new folder under your C:\Temp catalogue and
name it Briefcase.
- Open the
User Settings dialog box from the
Navigator in IFS Applications (web client only).
- Click Change Settings.
- Click the Path button to the right of the Briefcase
Root Path field.
- Browse to C:\Temp/Briefcase.
- Highlight the Briefcase folder and click Ok.
- Close the
User Settings dialog box by
clicking Ok.
After Initial File Check-In, Delete Local File - Extended Exercise
In this exercise you are going to control whether local files should be
deleted or not after the initial check in to a document.
- Create a new document title and go to the
Document Revision
window.
- Open the
User Settings dialog box by right clicking, selecting the File Operations sub menu and selecting the
User Settings item.
- Enable the After Initial File Check-In, Delete Local File option.
- Check in a file to the document and verify that it is delete from disk.
- Repeat step 1-4, but disable the option instead and verify that the file
is still on disk after the check in.
Overwrite Read-Only Files - Extended Exercise
In this exercise, you are going to specify that
read-only files should be overwritten when viewing, printing, or mailing files with the same title.
- Open the
User Settings dialog box from the
Navigator.
- Select the Overwrite Read-Only Files check
box.
