Using Transport Tasks—Exercises
IMPORTANT |
It is extremely important that you set up and work within your own
site to maintain your data integrity. If you work within any other
site, you will compromise your own exercise data as well as the data of
other students. Predictable exercise results require that your data be
isolated in your own site. |
Basic Data Setup
Site
Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to create sites
to be used in the main exercise.
Windows:
Site
Sites per User
- Create two sites.
- Connect the sites to your user ID.
General exercise for Entering

Inventory Locations
Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to set up
the basic data required for using the refill functionality.
Windows:
Inventory Locations
- Open the
Inventory Locations window and create inventory
locations of the following types: Arrival, Quality Assurance, Picking, Pallet
Delivery, and Pallet Buffer for both sites.

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to set up the
basic data required for using the transport task functionality.

- Create inventory part XX-58-401 on both sites.

Enabling Pallet Handling for Inventory Part
Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to set
up the basic data required for running this particular functionality.
Windows:
Inventory Part
- Open the Inventory Part
window.

In the Misc Part
tab select the Pallet Handled check box and enter the
standard putaway quantity.
- Click the Putaway
zones tab and the enter the putaway zones of your
choice.
- Save your record(s).
- Optionally, click the Pallet
Refill tab and enter refill information for the part.
- Repeat for the other site.

Required Data
Receiving Parts
Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to set
up the basic data required for running the transport task functionality.
Windows:
Receive Inventory Part
- Open the
Receive Inventory Part window, and search for your
part.
- Receive a quantity of parts to a picking location on each site.

Creating Pallets
Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to set
up the basic data required for running the refill functionality.
Windows:
Handle Pallets on Delivery Locations
Transport Task
- Open the
Receive Inventory Part window, and search for your
part on your default site.
- Receive enough parts to the pallet delivery location to create at least
two pallets.
- Open the
Handle Pallets on Delivery Location
and query for your pallet.
- Select a pallet record, right-click and then click Perform Putaway to create a
transport task to move pallets to the pallet buffer location.
- Open the
Transport Task window and search for the transport
task. Right-click and execute the
transport task.

Main Exercises
Purpose: The purpose of this lesson is to show you how to
use the transport task functionality.
Windows:
Transport Task
Receive from Transit
As a result of the latest ABC classification, you want to rearrange some of
the parts in your warehouse. You decide to use transport tasks for this purpose.
- Open the Transport Task
window and create a new record.
- On the
Single tab, create a new line for the part you wish to move.
- Specify a from location, using the
List of Values.
- Select a pallet delivery
location for the to location,
using the List of Values.
- Specify the quantity to be moved.
- If needed, add additional
information on the new line.
- Save the record.
- Open the
Transport Task
window and create a new record.
- On the Available Transport Task Lines
tab, select one or more lines with single handled parts.
- Right-click and then click
Move to Current Transport Task.
- Review the new lines on the
Single
tab.
- Open the
Transport Task
window.
- Search for a transport task
with more than one transport task line.
- On the Single tab, select one or more transport
task lines.
- Right-click and then click
Move to New Transport Task.
- In the dialog box that appears, select the Open Transport Task
check box and click OK.
- Review the lines on the
Single
tab and the new transport task.
- Right-click, then click Print Transport Task.
- Review the printout.
- Execute the physical relocation of the parts.
- Report the movement by selecting Execute from the Operations
menu.
- Open the Transport Task window and
create a new record.

tab, create a
new
line for the pallet you wish to move.
- Specify a from location using the
List of Values.
- Specify a pallet delivery
location for the to location,
using the List of Values.
- If needed, add additional
information on the new line.
- Save the record.

Task Lines tab, select one or more transport
task lines with pallet handled parts.
- Right-click and then click
Move to Current Transport Task.
- Review the new lines on the
Pallet tab.
- Open the
Transport Task
window.
- Search for a
transport task
with more than one transport task line.
- On the Pallet tab, select one or more transport
task lines.
- Right-click and then click
Move to New Transport Task.
- In the dialog box that appears, select the Open Transport Task
check box and click OK.
- Review the lines on the
Pallet tab and the new transport task.
- Select Print Transport Task from the Operations menu.
- Review the printout.
- Execute the physical relocation of the pallet.
- Report the movement by selecting Execute from the Operations
menu.
- Open the Transport Task window and

- Create a new

- Indicate a different site in the To Site field.
- Specify a from location using the
List of Values.
- Specify a pallet delivery
location for the to location,
using the List of Values.
- Insert the quantity to be moved.
- If needed, add additional
information on the new line.
- In the
Destination field, select Move to Transit.
- Save the record.
- Select Print Transport Task from the Operations menu.
- Review the printout.
- Execute the physical relocation of the parts out from inventory.
- Report the movement by selecting Execute from the Operations
menu.
- Open the Receive from Transit window.
- Enter a quantity received in the Qty Received field. Save.
- The parts are now received in the new location.
- Open the Transport Task window
and create a new record.
- Create a new
line on the Pallet tab with the part you wish to move.
- Indicate a different site in the To Site field.
- Specify a from location using the
List of Values.
- Specify a pallet delivery
location for the to location,
using the List of Values.
- If needed, add additional
information on the new line.
- In the
Destination field, select Move to Transit.
- Save the record.
- Select Print Transport Task from the Operations menu.
- Review the printout.
- Execute the physical relocation of the pallet from inventory.
- Report the movement by selecting Execute from the Operations
menu.
- Open the Receive from Transit window.
- Enter a quantity received in the Qty Received field. Save.
- The pallet is now received in the new location.
