Users

There is a number of predefined User IDs for the IFS/Vehicle Information Management (IFS/VIM) courses. This makes it easier for the teacher as he/she does not have to define users when starting a training course. Also note that these users have been set up properly with company, site, employee, etc.

Data integrity in exercises

In the Manage Master Configuration and Manage Serialized Configuration courses, the students will create their own basic, parts and structures. This ensures a distinct data integrity between students when executing the exercises.
In the Manage Maintenance Program course, the exercises are based on predefined parts and structures. The Manage Line Maintenance, Operate Asset and Maintenance Visit courses are also based on predefined data (different from data used for Manage Maintenance Program). There is also predefined data for the Handle Fleet Forecasting course.

This approach gives the instructor and the students a great flexibility:

It is possible to start any course. (It is not necessary to start with the Manage Master Configuration and Manage Serialized Configuration courses).
When training a group of maintenance planners, they can start on Manage Maintenance Program course as the exercises in this course do not require that they have been through exercises in the Manage Master/Serial Configuration courses.
If there is a group of students who will go through all the IFS/Vehicle Information Management courses, they may use data created in the first course when starting on the second course etc., but then data references in the exercise text will not match exactly with the data created by themselves.

Exercise data identifiers and numbering

In the exercises you will see that most of the data are specified with prefix "n", "X" or a combination of these.
Examples: nX747-900 (Part Number), X10000 (Serial Number) and nAC (Maintenance Group).

The use of prefixes has several advantages:

the "n" is used to identify data that belongs to student number "n".
the "X" makes it easy to query (F3) on the data you are using in the IFS/Vehicle Information Management exercises (including predefined data).
a query like "3X%" will normally fetch data that belongs to student no 3.
exercise text can be more specific when referring to data elements.
the students do not have to create their own identifiers.
