CBS Basic Data Definitions—BDR Exercises

Main Exercise

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to understand the basic data required to schedule a work order. In addition you will also learn how the work order is transferred and stored in the CBS server.

IMPORTANT !
When performing the exercises below please replace all occurrences of X with your site ID. This is to ensure that you work with your own data.

Verify that your site has a working CBS Server in order to schedule work orders (interactively)

  1. Open the Scheduling Basic Data window.
  2. Query for site X.
  3. Click the Work Order Scheduling tab.
  4. Verify that values are entered in the Port and Host fields.
  5. Click the Get Scheduling Server Date button. The relevant date and time will be displayed in the field next to the button. Note: This step is done to test the communication protocol through the CBS bridge to the CBS server.

Note: In step 5 the communication protocol through the CBS bridge to the CBS Server was tested. The returned date and time is the one retrieved from the CBS Server.

Add crafts to your site
              

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to add crafts to the craft register in order to have your own basic data to work with when scheduling.

Windows:

  1. Open the Organization Basic Data window and click the Craft Catalog tab.
  2. Enter the four crafts listed below if they do not exist:
    Craft ID Description Rate/h Currency
    100 Mechanic 25 USD
    200 Electrician 25 USD
    300 QA Manager 30 USD
    400 Senior Electrician 40 USD
  3. Save the information (F12).
  4. Next click the Craft to Site tab.
  5. Create a new record and enter the craft you want to connect to your site by using the List of Values. Repeat this step for all four crafts above.
  6. Open the Work Order Simulation Client dialog box and enter your site using the List of Values. Click OK. The IFS Scheduling/Simulation Client appears.
  7. Click the Master Data tab on the Data Tree window.
  8. Expand the Crafts node. The four crafts you added to the database should now be visible in CBS. The color of these nodes should be gray, which indicates that the crafts do not have any scheduled operations connected to them.

Add Maintenance Organizations to your site
              

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to add maintenance organizations to your site.

  1. Open the Organization Basic Data window and click the Maintenance Organizations tab.
  2. Add the two maintenance organizations listed below (Note: Replace X with your site ID):
    Maint. Org. Maint. Org. Description Maint. Org. Site Calendar ID
    X-1000 Mechanical Department X MAINT
    X-2000 Electrical Department X MAINT
  3. Save the information (F12).
  4. In the Create Maintenance Workshop dialog box that appears, select the Create Workshop check box and click OK. Repeat this step for both maintenance organizations.
  5. Open the Work Order Simulation Client dialog box and enter your site using the List of Values. Click OK. The IFS Scheduling/Simulation Client appears.
  6. Click the Database Open toolbar icon (the leftmost icon in the toolbar) to reload the data from the CBS Server into your CBS client.
  7. Click the Master Data tab on the Data Tree window.
  8. Expand the Employee node. The two maintenance organizations you added to the database should now be visible in CBS. The color of these nodes should be gray, and no employees should be connected to these maintenance organizations.
  9. Double-click the X-1000 organization and click the Show Relations tab. The value in the Calendar field should be MAINT.

Add Employees to your site
              

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to add maintenance personnel to your site.

Create new employees

  1. Open the Employee window.
  2. Create the first employee according to the table below:

  3. Save the information.
  4. You will now be prompted to enter a Position ID. Enter a value from the List of Values.
  5. Select Employee as the Assignment Type.
  6. Enter the current date and December 31st as the Valid From and Valid To dates respectively.
  7. Next you will be prompted to connect the new employee to an application user. Select any of the available CourseXX users using the List of Values. Click OK.
  8. Repeat steps 2 - 7 for all the employees in the table above.

Connect employee to site

  1. Open the Organization Basic Data window, click the Employees tab and create a new record.
  2. Enter the values in the table below in the Signature, Site and Maint. Org. fields respectively (Note: Remember to replace X with your site ID) and save the information.

  1. Once you have connected all the employees open the Work Order Simulation Client dialog box and enter your site using the List of Values. Click OK. The IFS Scheduling/Simulation Client appears.
  2. Click the Database Open toolbar icon (the leftmost icon in the toolbar) to reload the data from the CBS Server into your CBS client.
  3. Click the Master Data tab on the Data Tree window.
  4. Expand the Employee node. The six employees you added to the database should now be visible in CBS under the respective maintenance organization. The color of these nodes should be gray, since the employees have not yet been assigned.

Add Maintenance Team to your site

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to add a maintenance team to your site and to connect valid members to the team.

  1. Open the Organization Basic Data window and click the Teams tab.
  2. Add a maintenance team using the data in the table below. Note: Replace X with your site ID and save the information.

  1. Next, in the table of the tab, add the following employees as team members of the maintenance team.

  1. Once you have connected all the employees open the Work Order Simulation Client dialog box and enter your site using the List of Values. Click OK. The IFS Scheduling/Simulation Client appears.
  2. Click the Database Open toolbar icon (the leftmost icon in the toolbar) to reload the data from the CBS Server into your CBS client.
  3. Click the Master Data tab on the Data Tree window.
  4. Expand the Teams node. The team you added to the database should now be visible in CBS. The color of this nodes should be gray, since the team has not yet been assigned.

Add Tools-and-Facilities
              

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to add tools-and-facilities that can be used on your site.

  1. Open the Tools and Facilities Basic Data window and click the Tools and Facilities Type tab.
  2. Add the tool-and-facility types listed below if they do not exist:

  3. Next click the Tools and Facilities tab.

  5. Next click the Connect Tools and Facilities tab.
  6. Connect the tools-and-facilities to your site as shown in the table below:

  7. Finally check if the tools-and-facilities you created are loaded into the CBS Server. To do so, open the Work Order Simulation Client dialog box, enter your site and click OK. The IFS Scheduling/Simulation Client appears.
  8. Click the Database Open toolbar icon (the leftmost icon in the toolbar) to reload the data from the CBS Server into your CBS client.
  9. Click the Master Data tab on the Data Tree window.
  10. Expand the Tool Sets node. The two tools-and-facilities you added to the database should now be visible in CBS under their respective type and maintenance organization. The color of these nodes should be gray, since the tools-and-facilities have not yet been assigned.
