Using CBS in a Work Order Environment—Exercises

Main Exercise

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to understand how to work with the different modes of the CBS client; namely the Planning mode and the Simulation mode.

When performing the exercises below please replace all occurrences of X with the site ID assigned to the trainer. This is to ensure that you work with your own data.

Launch the IFS Scheduling/Simulation Client

  1. Open the Work Order Simulation Client dialog box.
  2. Enter your site (X) using the List of Values. Note: The List of Values only display CBS enabled sites.
  3. Click OK. The IFS Scheduling/Simulation Client will be opened (the difference between the simulation and scheduling client can be viewed by the window title).

Additional Information

The CBS clients contain two basic features :

  1. Loading a schedule from the CBS Server - The CBS client holds a separate copy of the schedule that is loaded when the server is started up or whenever you click the Database Open toolbar icon (the leftmost icon in the toolbar).

  2. Scaling the gantt chart according to schedule contents.

  3. In the Data Tree window select a node that is colored green, drag-and-drop onto the Gantt Chart window.

  4. Drag the uppermost activity onto the Drag & Drop Auto Timescale icon in the Gantt Chart ( ). The Gantt Chart will now adjust to the dates when the activity/activities have been scheduled.

  5. Launch the IFS Scheduling/Planner Client

    1. Open the Work Order Scheduling Client dialog box.
    2. Enter your site (X) using the List of Values. Note: The List of Values only display CBS enabled sites.
    3. The Time Limit field displays the number of minutes the IFS Scheduling/Planner Client will lock the CBS Server and the work orders registered for this site on the database so that no further updates are possible except from this scheduling client. Accept the default value.
    4. Click OK. The IFS Scheduling/Planner Client will be opened (the difference between the simulation and scheduling client can be viewed by the window title).
    5. Wait for the Alert Window. This window allows you to decide if you want to save your new schedule or not. When the time expires, both the CBS Server lock and the database lock will be removed automatically.
    6. Click the Database Open toolbar icon (the leftmost icon in the toolbar) if you want to get an updated schedule from the CBS Server.
    7. In the Get Schedule  dialog box that appears, select one of the following options:
    1. Click OK.
