Creating Product Structure — Exercises
IMPORTANT |
It is extremely important that you set up and work within your own
site to maintain your data integrity. If you work within any other
site, you will compromise your own exercise data as well as the data of
other students. Predictable exercise results require that your data
be isolated in your own site. |
Required Data
Entering Inventory Part
Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to show you how to
set
up the basic data required for running this particular functionality.
Windows:
Copy Parts to Site
Note: If you already have the racing engine parts in your site, use
your existing parts. These parts all have part numbers with the format 20–nnn.
- Copy all parts from Site 1 to your site using 200 as the value for
Commodity Group 2.
- Save your changes.

Main Exercises
Purpose: The purpose of these exercises is to familiarize
you with the functionality for entering
a product structure for a part that will be manufactured.
Windows:
Product Structure
Note: When an inventory part with the Purchased,
Manufactured, or Repair part type is saved, a product structure header is created.
- Open the
Product Structure window.
- Query for Part 20–250 on your site.
- Click the
Product Structure tab, and enter Default as
the alternate description for the * (asterisk) alternative.
- Click the
Product Structure tab, and enter parts marked with green according to the structure
described below.
- Create a new line.
- Enter the component parts (green boxes in the diagram below) in the Component Part column. Use
the List of Values
to select from the available parts. In the Quantity per Assembly column, enter
the quantity of the component to go into one of the parent parts.
- Save your changes.
- In the Status field, change the status to Buildable using the right
mouse button menu.

- Open the
Product Structure window.
- Query for Part 20–250 on your site.
- Select the manufactured part, right-click, and then click Next Level
to move to the next level.
- Click the
Product Structure tab, and enter Default as
the alternate description for the * (asterisk) alternative.
- Enter the component parts (marked with blue) in the Component Part column. Use
the List of Values
to select from the available parts. In the Quantity per Assembly column, enter
the quantity of the component to go into one of the parent parts.
- Save your changes.
- In the Status field, change the status to Buildable using the right
mouse button menu.
- Go to Line Item 1, right-click, and then click Previous Level to
move to a higher level.
Note: You can change the status of an alternative using a right
mouse button option in the header portion of the
Product Structure window.
