Change Design Object Class
Explanation
This activity is used to change the class of a design object. The class will
in most cases be changed from a temporary class designation to a final class
designation. Refer Parent Class in About Classes for the classes
to which an object class can be changed. Previously, design objects may have been registered with with a
class because design work was incomplete and the exact design object type was
unknown. At this stage, the final class that the design object belongs to, has
been decided.
Prerequisites
- An object should be created and registered to a class.
- The ID Model and ID Separators of the object whose class is being
changed should be the same as those defined for the class to which it is
being changed.
- The design object design status should be either Under Design,
Planned for Operation, or Redesign.
- If the design object is in the state Planned for
Operation or Redesign, a corresponding equipment object may exist
and therefore imposes the following rules for the class to be changed:
- The Object Type for the new class, must be the same as
the object class of the equipment object corresponding to the design
object whose class is being changed.
- The Object Level for the new class, must be the same
as the object class of the equipment object corresponding to the design
object whose class is being changed.
- The class to which the design object is being changed should be either
the Parent Class (but not if the parent class is *, the default class),
Child Class (any class below the present class) or Sibling Class (two
classes that share a common parent class, but only if that class is on the
lowest level of the structure).
System Effects
The object will be assigned the new class. Object data may be lost by
changing the class. Refer to Changing Design Object Class in About Classes for
more information.
