Reserve Serial Number

Explanation

Use this function to reserve a serial number for a part. This requires that both the Inventory Serial Tracking flag is set and the After Delivery Serial Tracking flag is set. The flags are handled in Part. The serial number gives you the tool to keep track of one specific instance of a part. Before a shop order can be created, a serial number must be reserved for the part. To reserve the serial number, use the menu option Serials/Reserve Serial.

Prerequisites

• The part must exist in Part Catalog.
• The part must have a structure.
• The part cannot be a Std Planned part, or PMRP supplied part.
• Inventory Serial Tracking flag must be set.
• After Delivery Serial Tracking flag must be set.

System Effects

• The reserved serial number cannot be used by another part having the same part number.
