Release Shop Order
Explanation
This activity is used to release a planned or parked shop order. Once the order is
released, you can begin processing it. If the shop order
is created from a shop order requisition, where the shop order requisition type is
Material Requirements Planning (MRP),
a check should be performed.
If alternate components are used, then you should modify shop order components
to avoid shortage problems.
When releasing a shop order, you can perform an availability check on that order.
It is not possible to release a shop order connected to a project activity
in IFS/Project, if the activity is not released.
Prerequisites
- This activity requires the existence of a shop order with a status of either
Planned or
Parked. To perform an availability check, the value of Auto avail check of shop order
must be either Yes or Allowed on the
Parameters for
Distribution and Manufacturing window.
- If the value is Allowed, then the check box Availability Check is editable.
- If the value is Yes, then the check box Availability Check is non-editable but selected.
- If the value is No, then the check box Availability Check is non-editable and not selected
- The check box Availability Check must be selected on the Misc Part Info tab of the Inventory Part window for the materials in the shop order, in order to perform the availability check.
- Finally, the Expected Lead Time must be defined for the part on the
Acquisition tab of the Inventory Part window.
System Effects
- As a result of this activity, the status of
the shop order changes to Released. If an outside operation is included, the system releases the
purchase order requisition, if this was not already done during the planning of the shop
order. However outside operations are not handled for component repair orders (CRO).
An external service order (ESO) is created for any outside work. If the shop order is connected to an activity that is not released, a message
appears when you attempt to release the shop order.
- If you perform Next Level Demand planning, a single level material plan
will be created. The part planned will be sourced using make/buy splits and
supplier part information to determine the order proposals. If
the net requirement is for a part that is sourced from a multi-site planned
internal supplier, then a distribution order will be created.
If the part is sourced from a make/buy split with supplier splits this
process would result in the creation of a combination of outputs in the form
of shop requisitions, distribution orders, and purchase requisitions. Otherwise,
the inventory part type and the inventory part supply type will determine
the type of requisition or order to create.
- If planning alerts exist, the Planning Alerts check box in
the Shop Orders window will be selected. If MRP has used
alternate components, the Alternate Component Used check box in the
Shop Orders window will also be selected.
- Note that if the shop order is connected to a project activity, the shop
order will begin to report Committed Cost and Hours to the project,
once it has been released. Committed Cost and Hours will be reported through
the project cost element that is based on the posting control type for
Work-in-Progress.
