This activity is used to reserve material automatically for an entire shop order. When you reserve material automatically, the material is issued from an inventory location that is selected according to a certain priority order, such as FIFO (First In, First Out). This principle is not used if the material has an expiration date. In that case, the material with the earliest expiration date is issued first. When reserving material automatically, you also can specify a date to which reservations are made. (Material does not need to be reserved all at once, only the materials needed up to that particular date.) The date determines how far in time the availability check should extend.
Note: If the required components are available from a single lot/batch, then only the materials are reserved automatically for a multilevel repair shop order.
This activity requires that the shop order is at least in the Released status.
As a result of this activity, the system reserves material for a shop order. The shop order's status changes to Reserved. The status of the material lines also changes to Reserved.
When reserving material to a shop order that has pegged material line(s), the automatic reservation will reserve only the quantity that is not pegged.
