This activity is used to start calculating level 1. This calculates forecast and actual demand, traces orders, and provides action proposals. The master schedule is calculated and created from forecasts on level 0, the forecast you enter on level 1, and the actual backlog of orders. You also can choose to calculate level 1 for a single part. This gives you quick access to the results of the forecasts you entered.
This activity requires that you must have entered master schedule level 1 parts and registered forecasts. The registration of level 1 parts can be handled manually or automatically from the level 0 calculation.
As a result of this activity, the system's calculation suggests new orders and actions for existing orders. In addition, MS results in a gross demand, which forms the basis of MRP. While the calculation is underway, an on-hand analysis is made. You can view it in the Calculated Balance column in MS Level 1 Part. At the start of each calculation, period 1 is updated. This means that the system considers the run date. If the program was run on Tuesday and the period used is a five-day week that includes Friday, then period 1 will be from Tuesday to Friday. If the program is run on Wednesday, period 1 is from Wednesday to Friday. The physical quantity on hand is updated during calculation. This value is used for calculating quantity on hand development and available to promise.
