Create Predefined Employee Objectives

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to create general sales objectives to measure performance of employees.

  1. Create the following sales objectives as predefined employee objectives. 
    Employee Objective Description Target
    Cash Collection Improve the cash collection. Cash collection to be done within 30 days.
    Sales Target Achieve the specified sales target. Target of USD 50,000
    Sales Avenues Identify new sales avenues Identify areas for new sales.

Create Periods for Performance Evaluation

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise is to create periods during which employee performance should be measured.

Main Exercise

Purpose: The purpose of this lesson is to assign sales objectives and related activities to employee ALEX. See that the employee is assigned to objectives and activities as detailed in the table below.

Assign Objectives to Individual Employees

  1. Open the Employee Objectives window and create a new record.
  2. Enter the employee ID of ALEX in the relevant field.
  3. Enter 2012-QTR-01 as the period during which the employee's performance is measured.
  4. In the Objective ID field, enter the predefined objective 'Sales Target'. You can select this value using the available list.
  5. The start and end date for the objective is by default the start and end date of the period 2012-QTR-01.
  6. Set the weight of the objective to 80.
  7. Save the information.
     
  8. Duplicate the record you created above, change the objective to 'Sales Avenues' and the period to 2012-QTR-02. You can select his value using the available list.
  9. Select the Use Activity Rating check box for this objective.
  10. Save the information.
     
  11. Duplicate the record you created above and change the objective to 'Reduce existing operation cost by 10%' and the period to 2012-QTR-03. Note that this is not a predefined objective, therefore you should manually enter the objective ID and description.

Note: The status of the employee objectives is by default Initial since this is the status defined with the lowest sequence number.

Assign Objectives to Multiple Employees

  1. Open the Predefined Objectives window.
  2. Select the predefined objectives 'Sales Target'.
  3. Right-click and click Connect Objective to Multiple Employees. The Connect Objectives to Multiple Employees dialog box will open.
  4. Enter PAYRL as the template ID. Select value from the list.
  5. In the Performance Period field, enter a period. Enter the first quarter of 2012 as the period. You can select the value from the list.
  6. Enter ALAIN as the person responsible and the evaluator of the objective in the relevant fields.
  7. Click OK.
  8. Open the Employee Objectives window and populate. All the employees who belong to template PAYRL will have the 'Sales Target' objective assigned to them.

Note: The status of the employee objectives is by default Initial since this is the status defined with the lowest sequence number.

Create Activities for the Employee Objective

  1. Open the Employee Activities window and create a new record.
  2. Enter the employee ID of ALEX in the relevant field.
  3. In the Performance Period field, enter 2012-QTR-01 as the period.
  4. Now, if you select the list of values for the Objective ID field, the objectives you connected to ALEX in the previous procedure will be listed. Select 'Sales Target' as the objective.
  5. In the Activity ID field, enter 01.
  6. In the Activity Description field, enter 'Achieve a sales target of USD 15,000' as the description.
  7. Save the information.
  8. Duplicate the record and enter the other activities for the employee's objectives as specified in the table.

Note: The status of the activities is by default Initial. Also, there are no activities defined for objective 'Reduce the existing operation cost by 10%'.
