Maintenance Order Processing—Exercises
Main Exercise
Purpose: The purpose of this lesson is to show you how
to execute running tasks which have been distributed with either the
Simplified Work Order and Work Order distribution types. Simplified
work orders are handled directly in IFS/Vehicle Information Management while
tasks with the Work Order distribution type will be transferred to and
handled in IFS/Work Order Management.
Purpose: The purpose of this lesson is to do simple order
processing on an interval task, a modification task and a condition based task that have been
generated and distributed in prior exercises.
Prerequisites: Before starting on this exercise you must
have finished the Task Distribution - 1
exercise.

Planned and Running Tasks
History per Serial
- Open the Planned and Running Tasks window.
- Query for the Top Serial Number: nX20000 and verify the
4 running tasks
being generated in the last exercise
- Select the tasks, with Distribution Type = Simplified
Work Order, right-click and click Maint Order Info. (You
may also get here directly from Task Distribution/Planned and Running Tasks
tab, right-click and click Maint Order Information. The Maintenance
Order window will be displayed.
- Click the Included Tasks tab.
- Select the tasks, right-click and click Release
- The Task Start dialog box
appears. Set the Task Start field to Today.
- Select a task of type Intervalmaint, right-click and
click Finish.
- The Finish Task - Enter General Info
dialog box appears. Set the Finish Date field to Today, Man Hours Used
field to 2 hrs. and the Competence field to XMECH.
- Enter a brief Work Description.
- Click Finish. The task will disappear from this window.
- Select the task of type On-Condition, right-click and click Finish.
- The Finish Task - Enter General Info
dialog box appears. Set the Finish Date field to Today, Man Hours Used
field to 3.5 hrs. and the Competence field to XMECH.
- Enter a brief work description.
- Click Finish. The task will disappear from this window.
- Select the task of type Modification Inspection, right-click and click Finish.
- The Finish Task - Enter General Info
dialog box appears. Set the Finish Date field to Today, Man Hours Used
field to 1.0 hrs. and the Competence field to XMECH.
- Enter a brief work description
that starting corrosion was identified on Wheel Axle.
- Click Next.
- Because of this corrosion, you decide to set the Mod Execution Type
field to Continued Inspection.
- Click Finish. The task will disappear from this window.
- Open the
History per Serial
window and query for your A/C
and Nose Landing Gear.
- Identify the tasks that you have just finished.
- Go to exercise Work Order Processing - 1.
Purpose: The purpose of this lesson is to do
work order processing on an interval task that have been
generated and distributed in prior exercises.
Prerequisites: Before starting on this exercise you must
have finished the
Task Distribution - 1 exercise.
Windows:
Planned and Running Tasks
Report In Work Order
- Open the Planned and Running Tasks
window.
- Query for the Top Serial Number nX20000
and select the task, with distribution type Work Order, right-click and
then click
Report In Work Order.
- In the header, right-click, point to Work
Order Status, and then click Released.
- Click the
Operations tab and find the operations that were transferred from
IFS/VIM. Right-click, point to Operation Status, and then click
Started. Observe, the status of the corresponding work order will be
changed automatically to Started if this is the first operation to be
started and if the work order is not already in this status.
- Once
the work is done, change the status of the operation to Work Done
using the Operation Status feature. In
the text-editor that opens enter information on the actions taken when
performing work on the operation. This information will be retained in the
Action Taken field on the operation record.
Note: If Executor sign off is defined on the operation, this will be
performed automatically when setting the operation to the Work Done
status. If a license requirement is defined on the Executor sign off
requirement type, you must have the relevant license to be able to perform the
status change.
- If Independent or Inspector sign off requirements have been defined, these
need to be performed before the operation can be set to the Finished
status. A different person with the required license must perform the
Independent or Inspector sign off.
- Once all required sign offs are
performed, the operation will be set automatically to the Finished
status. Note: If sign off requirements have not been defined on the
operation, the operation is automatically set to the Finished status
when setting it to Work Done.
- Click the Time
Report tab.
- Right-click and click
Create From Planning. This will retrieve all the information from the
Prepare Work Order/Planning tab.
- Select a suitable planning line from the list that appears and click OK.
- Specify the number of worked hours in the Hours
field.
- Save the information (F12).

Click the Materials tab, select the
material line, right-click and click Issue.

Click the Tools and Facilities tab and
specify the number of used hours in the Reported Hours field.

Save the information (F12).

Click the Report In tab and enter
information in the Actual Start and Actual Completion
fields. Actual start to be 1 minute after required start and actual
completion the time right now, including minutes (this is important for the
following exercises to work correct but is real life it does, of course, not
have to be this way)
- Save the information (F12).

Click the Postings tab, right-click and click Authorize All Non-Authorized.

Enter your signature and click OK.

In the
header, right-click and click Work Order Status/Finished

Faults
& Events - 1.
Purpose: The purpose of this lesson is to do simple order
processing of the fault task for vibrations in the nose landing gear. A
technician concludes that the tyre has a defect.
Windows:

Maintenance Order
- Open the Task Distribution
window.
- Query for the Top Serial Number: nX20000 and click the Planned and Running Tasks tab.
- Select the task, right-click and select Maint Order Info. and select the
Tasks
tab when the Maintenance Order window appears.
- Select the task again, right-click and click Release. Set Task Start
to Today when the Start Task dialog box appears.
- Select the task again, right-click and click Finish.
- Set the following in the Finish Task - Enter
General Info dialog box: the Finish Date field to
Today, Man Hours Used field to 0.5 hours and the Competence
field to XMECH.
- Enter a brief Work Description stating that there is a problem with
the tyre on Wheel Assy. Therefore, the next thing to do is to register a new
fault connected to this fault you just have repaired. Click
the Next.
- The Finish Task - Enter Fault Info
dialog box appears. Set the Bottom Function field to 3224 and the
Fault Code field to DAM.
- Click the
Finish.

Faults
and Events - 2
Purpose: The purpose of this lesson is to do simple order
processing on a fault task and a modification inspection task that have been generated
and distributed in prior exercises.

window.
- Query for the Top Serial Number: nX20000 and click the
Planned and Running tasks tab
- Select the 2 tasks.
- Right-click and click Maint Order Info. and click the
Tasks
tab when the
Maintenance Order window appears.
- Select the tasks again, right-click and click Release. Set Task Start
to Today when the
Start Task dialog box appears.
- Select the task of type Modification Inspection , right-click and click Finish.
- Set the following in the Finish Task - Enter
General Info dialog box: the Finish Date field to
Today, Man Hours Used field to 0.5 hours and the Competence
field to XMECH.
- Enter a brief Work Description. Click the
Next.
- Let Mod Execution Type=Continued Inspection remain unchanged.
- Click the Finish.
- Then, select the task of type Serial Repair (e.g.: wheel replacement), right-click and click
Finish.
- Set the following in the Finish Task - Enter
General Info dialog box: the Finish Date field to
Today, Man Hours Used field to 2 hours and the Competence
field to XMECH.
- Enter a brief Work Description. Click
Next.
- The Finish Task - Enter Fault Info
dialog box appears. Set the Bottom Function field to 3224 and the
Fault Code field to DAM.
- Click the
Next.
- Create new record and enter X32WHE7002 in the Part Number field, select a
serial
number. Save and click Finish.
- (We will not handle the repair of the dismounted wheel)

Operation Logging - 4
Purpose: The purpose of this lesson is to do simple order
processing on an interval task, a modification
inspection task and a PMC serial fault task that have been generated
and distributed in previous exercises.
Windows:

Maintenance Order
- Open the Planned and Running Tasks window.
- Query for the Top Serial Number: nX20000 and verify the
4 running tasks.
- Select the tasks, with Distribution Type = Simplified
Work Order, right-click and click Maint Order Info. (You
may also get here directly from
Task Distribution/Planned
and Running Tasks
tab and using the right mouse button option Maint Order Info).
- Select the tasks, right-click and click Release. Set Task Start to
Today when the
Start Task dialog box appears.
- Select the task of type Interval Maint, right-click and
click Finish.
- Set the following in the Finish Task - Enter
General Info dialog box: the Finish Date field to
Today, Man Hours Used field to 3.5 hours and the Competence
field to XMECH.
- Enter a brief Work Description. Click the Finish.
- Select the task of type Modification, right-click and click Finish.
- Set the following in the Finish Task - Enter
General Info dialog box: the Finish Date field to
Today, Man Hours Used field to 2 hours and the Competence
field to XMECH.
- Enter a brief Work Description. Click Next.
- Set the Mod Execution Type
field to Termination Action. Click the Finish.
- Select the task of type PMC Serial Repair, right-click and
click Finish.
- Set the following in the Finish Task - Enter
General Info dialog box: the Finish Date field to
Today, Man Hours Used field to 1 hour and the Competence
field to XMECH.
- Enter a brief Work Description. Click the
Next.
- You have not used any material so
click the Finish.
- Go to exercise
Work Order Processing - 2
Purpose: The purpose of this lesson is to perform work
order processing on an interval maintenance task that has been generated and
distributed in previous exercises. You will also learn how
to record a summary of the work carried out on a task and include a task
operation into the CRS Documentation: Work Carried Out report. The ordering and
printing of the reports is described in the
Print CRS Documentation Reports
exercise.
Windows:
Task Distribution
Maintenance Order
- Open the Planned and Running Tasks window.
- Query (F3) for the top serial number nX20000 and select the remaining
task with the Work Order distribution type.
- Right-click and click Report In Work Order. In the header of the
Report In Work Order window, right-click, point to Work
Order Status, and then click Released.
- Click the Operations tab and find the operations that were
transferred from IFS/VIM. Right-click on an operation record, point to
Operation Status, and then click Started. Observe, the status of
the corresponding work order will be changed automatically to Started
if this is the first operation to be started and if the work order is not
already in this status.
- Once the work is done, change the status of the operation to Work
Done using the Operation Status feature. In the
text-editor that opens enter information on the actions taken when
performing work on the operation. This information will be retained in the
Action Taken field on the operation record. Continue with the steps
listed under Include actions taken in
report if you want to include the action reported
on this operation in the CRS Documentation: Work Carried Out report.
Note: If Executor sign off is defined on the operation, the sign off
will be performed automatically when setting the operation to the Work Done
status. If a license requirement is defined on the Executor sign off
requirement type, you must have the relevant license to be able to perform the
status change.
- If Independent or Inspector sign off requirements have been defined, these
need to be performed before the operation can be set to the Finished
status. A different person with the required license must perform the
Independent or Inspector sign off.
- Once all required sign offs are
performed, the operation will be set automatically to the Finished
status. Note: If sign off requirements have not been defined on the
operation, the operation is automatically set to the Finished status
when setting it to Work Done.
- Click the Time
Report tab.
- Create a new record (F5)
and specify a value for the following fields: Plan Line No, Craft and
Hours.
Use the List of Values to select suitable values where appropriate.
- Save the information (F12).
- Click the Materials tab, select the
material line, right-click and click Issue.
- Click the Tools and Facilities tab and
specify the number of used hours in the Reported Hours field.
- Save the information (F12).

Click the Report In tab and enter
information in the Actual Start and Actual Completion

- Save the information (F12).

Include actions taken in
report:
- Open the Maintenance Order window
and query (F3) for the maintenance order associated with the above selected
serial structure. Verify that the maintenance order is in the Work Done
status. To set a maintenance order to the Work Done status, you need
to right--click on the order, point to Status, and then click Work
Done.
- Click the Maint. Order Str. tab.
Locate the relevant task from the navigator and then click the
Operations tab.
- In the Action Taken field, verify that the
information you entered in step 5 above is displayed. The information can be
modified, if necessary.
- Select the Incl. Action Taken in Report
check box for the record.
- Save the information (F12).
- Click the Task Details tab,
right-click and click Set Work Carried Out.
- Enter a summary text of the work carried out on
the task. This information will be included in the CRS Documentation: Work
Carried Out report.
- Navigate back to the Report In Work Order
window that was previously opened and continue with steps 6 to 18 detailed
above.

and distributed in previous exercises.

- Query for the Top Serial Number: nX20000 and verify the
five running tasks.
- Select the tasks right-click and click Maint Order Info. (You
may also get here directly from Task Distribution/Planned and Running Tasks
tab and using the right mouse button option Maint Order Info).
- Select the tasks, right-click and click Release. Set Task Start to
Today when the
Start Task dialog box appears.
- Select the task of type Modification, right-click and click Finish.
- Set the following in the Finish Task - Enter
General Info dialog box: the Finish Date field to
Today, Man Hours Used field to 2 hours and the Competence
field to XMECH.
- Enter a brief work description.
- Click the Next
button.
- Create new record and enter X32AXL7003 in the Part Number field, select a
Serial
Number. Save and click Finish.

Execute the other tasks.
Purpose: The purpose of this lesson
is to perform a simplified order processing on a modification task which leads
to a part identity change. The modification task has been generated and
distributed through previous exercises.
Windows:

Maintenance Order
- Open the
Task Distribution window.
- Query (F3) for the Top Part Number X747-900
and Top Serial Number nX30000.
- Click
the Planned and Running Tasks tab.
- Select
the row that holds the modification task, right-click, and then click
Maint Order Info. The
Maintenance Order window opens.

Click the
Tasks tab.
-
Select the row that holds the modification task,
right-click, and then click Release. The
Start Task
dialog box opens.
- Enter the system date (today's date) as the
Task Start date and click OK to close the dialog box.

Select the row that holds the modification task once
again, right-click, and then click Finish. The
Finish Task
wizard opens.
- Enter the following
details in the Finish Task - Enter General Info wizard step:
Finish Date - system date
Man-hours Used - the number of
hours used
Competence - XMECH
Work Description - a brief
description of the work done - Click Next.

Enter the following details for serial X32LEG7004,
nX30999 in the Finish Task - Part Identity Change on Serials in
Structure wizard step:
a valid Maintenance Program ID,
Maintenance Program Revision and Maintenance Group.
Note: If a valid maintenance program does not exist for the
new part revision, values are not required to be entered in the Maintenance Program ID and
Maintenance Program Revision fields.
Select the Update Operational Log
History, Update Replacement History and Update Other History
check boxes.
- Click Finish.
To verify the serial rename;
- Open the Serial Structure Information
window
and query (F3) for Part Number X747-900 and Serial Number
nX30000.
- Click the
Consist Of
tab.
- Select the row that holds the serial
X32NLG7001, nX30999, right-click, and then click Next Level.
- Verify that the serial X32LEG7004, nX30999 has
been renamed to X32LEG7005, nX30999.
- Select the row
containing the serial being renamed, right-click and then click Next
Level to move down one level in the structure.

Disconnect part X32LNK7008 from the structure. The reason for disconnecting
the part is that the part number of the serial has been renamed and part
X32LNK7008 is not a valid part number in the template of the new serial.

Install part X32LNK7009. The reason we install this part is because it
belongs to the configuration of the new serial (i.e., the serial after the
rename) instead of the part which was disconnected in the previous step.
Purpose: The purpose of this lesson
is to print out task-oriented reports of the work carried out or cancelled
during a maintenance shop visit.

- Open the Maintenance Order window and
query for the maintenance order associated with the work order processed in
Work Order Processing - 2
exercise.
- Right-click
and click Print CRS Documentation.
- Select the check boxes for the reports you want
printed and click OK.
