Alter Dependencies
Explanation
This activity is used to create or modify dependencies.
Dependency relationships (predecessor - successor) can be created between the operations of a particular work order or
between different work orders in the Execution Logic Structure (ELS).
Dependencies cannot be created between operations of different work orders in
the structure. If a work order does not contain any operations, dependencies
cannot be created to this work order.
When
creating or modifying dependencies using the Gantt chart, the Dependencies mode must be opened by
right-clicking on the graph, and then clicking Create Dependencies Mode.
In this mode you’ll see that the cursor becomes a pen, which can be used to draw
the dependencies between different nodes in the structure.
You can also create
dependencies by using the functionality included in the Predecessors
dialog box or by using the List of Values function in the Predecessors
and Successors sub tabs.
Prerequisites
- The ELS must have been released, and the work
order ELS created.
- Work order operations must have been defined.
- To update the CBS server with dependency information, the site to which
the work order or operation is connected must be a CBS enabled site. A site
is CBS enabled in Scheduling Basic Data.
- The dependant work order must be in a status lower
than Started.
System Effects
- Dependencies are created between two or more
operations of a work order.
- Dependencies are created between two or more work
orders in the structure.
- If IFS/CBS is used, the addition or removal of both predecessor and
successor dependencies for work orders will be recorded in the CBS Server
directly if the work order status is Prepared, Released or
Started. Note however that immediate rescheduling will not be performed,
and you have to reschedule for the new dependency definitions to take
effect.

Procedure
Gantt chart
Use this procedure to create dependencies between the
operations of a particular work order:
- Open the Work Order Execution Logic
window and query for the desired work order or object ID.
- Click the Gantt tab.
- Right-click on the graph, and then click Create
Dependencies Mode.
- Draw dependencies between the operations of the
selected work order.
- Save the information (F12).
Use this procedure to create dependencies between work
orders in the structure:
- Open the Work Order Execution Logic
window and query for the desired work order or object ID.
- Click the Gantt tab.
- Right-click on the graph, and then click Create
Dependencies Mode.
- Draw dependencies between work orders.
- Save the information (F12).
Use this procedure to remove existing dependencies
between operations or work orders.
- Open the Work Order Execution Logic
window and query for the desired work order or object ID.
- Click the Gantt tab.
- Right-click on the dependency line, i.e., the
Black arrow, and then click Delete Link.
- Save the information (F12).
Predecessors sub tab
Use this procedure to define a predecessor for a
certain operation:
- Open the Work Order Execution Logic
window and query (F3) for the necessary work order or object ID.
- In the graphical object structure select the
operation for which you want to define a predecessor.
- Click the Dependencies tab and then
click the Predecessors sub tab.
- Create a new record (F5).
- In the Predecessor Operation No field,
enter the operation that is to be the predecessor. Use the List of Values to
select a valid value.
- Save the information (F12).
